Chagford Drift Sale

Chagford Drift sale

Ponies have been a regular fixture on Dartmoor for thousands of years but in recent history they have been ‘drifted’ annually to Chagford, home of the last livestock market to uphold the tradition of the ‘Drift Sale’

I photographed the sale ten years ago when prices were rock bottom and ponies were being scooped up cheap and supposedly sold on for animal food and illicit meat trade. After numerous calls to end the sale it looks like things are on the up and the Drift Sale is still a regular feature on the annual calendar.

Not a lot has changed since my last visit , or maybe even a century. Maybe I’ll try again in another ten.

Clandestine

Clandestine

I first discovered Pi's work while searching for an obscure bicycle component and I’ve been following his work and saving my pennies ever since.

Pi moved to Devon last year and after a fortuitous meeting I managed to pay him a visit and shoot some shots as he racked up the racks.
With time honoured techniques at the forefront of the Clandestine ethos It was only fitting I captured his work on film with a homespun invention of my own.

More images of my visit to the Clandestine HQ can be seen here
